Rebuild Your Smile and Restore Oral Function with Dentures
If you are missing most or all of your teeth, you could be a candidate for custom-made dentures at Adel Dental Associates. Dentures are removable dental appliances that restore the health, function, and beauty of your smile. At our practice in Adel, GA, Dr. Michael McCartney has over 20 years of experience placing dentures, and can create a fully personalized treatment plan to meet your specific needs.
About Dentures
When you are missing teeth, it can have a significant negative impact on your ability to chew, eat, and speak. Dentures are an excellent way to restore form and function to your smile and improve your overall quality of life. Crafted for a sleek and comfortable fit, dentures are supported and stabilized by your gum tissue and underlying jawbone.
At Adel Dental Associates, we offer both full and partial dentures to accommodate our patients’ needs. Full dentures replace an entire arch of missing teeth, while partials address sporadic tooth loss. Patients may need an upper denture, a lower denture, or both, depending on their unique situation.
Dentures can be crafted from a wide variety of materials from acrylic to ceramic porcelain. The high-quality options available today reflect light just like natural teeth for a lifelike smile.
Your Initial Consultation
During your first visit with Dr. McCartney, a full oral assessment will be performed. Any existing teeth will be examined, along with the gums and surrounding soft tissues. X-rays, scans, and photographs will be taken as part of the treatment planning process. These images help us present an accurate diagnosis so your new denture will deliver an optimal fit.
At Adel Dental Associates, we offer both full and partial dentures to accommodate our patients’ needs.
During this evaluation, Dr. McCartney can recommend any necessary preparatory procedures. This could include periodontal treatment for patients suffering from gum disease or tooth extractions, if required. If receiving dentures is part of your treatment plan for a full mouth reconstruction, Dr. McCartney can also discuss any other procedures you may be undergoing.
Receiving Dentures: Your Treatment Process
Once Dr. McCartney has determined that you are a good candidate for dentures, we will schedule you for an appointment in our office. Receiving your dentures includes a number of steps:
- Impressions: In order for your dentures to fit precisely, we will need to take impressions of your mouth. These will be sent to our trusted dental lab to fabricate your restoration.
- Wax Model: Typically, we request that the lab fabricate a wax build-up. This try-in model can be assessed for comfort and appearance. Any changes will be noted and communicated to the lab.
- Fabrication: Once the lab receives our notes, a skilled technician will begin to craft your final dentures. This length of this process can vary, but it generally requires one to two weeks.
- Final Adjustments: When your dentures are complete, the lab will send them to our office. We will schedule an appointment to place them for you, at which time, Dr. McCartney can make any necessary final adjustments.
Maintaining Your Oral Health
Following the placement of your dentures, it is important to attend routine dental checkups to make sure your prosthesis is fitting well. It is not uncommon to need a few minor adjustments during the first few weeks. Be sure to follow your doctor’s instructions regarding follow-up appointments for a straightforward and successful treatment.
Dentures Are an Affordable Solution
While traditional dentures are one of the most economical options in restorative dentistry, implant-supported dentures can have significant oral health benefits as well as provide additional stability and comfort. If you would like to know more about the benefits of implant-supported dentures, Dr. McCartney can discuss this option with you at your initial consultation.
